In October 2005, conformance to BS8404 for UK distributed non-reclosable packs of Aspirin, Paracetamol, and Iron based products (24mg and above) became mandatory.

Having listened to customer concerns on a solution to meet this need, Alcan Packaging developed a push-through material to comply with the new requirements.

The structure - A 20 micron hard temper foil/15 micron PVC to seal to PVC - has the following key characteristics;

•  runs on existing blister machines without the need for either costly re-tooling, reduced productivity or potential stability testing

•  provides a pack that offers a similar level of protection from air, moisture and light and closely resembles that currently in the market in terms of cosmetic appearance

•  features the same "push through" action to which end users of blister packs are accustomed

The structure has been tested independently and is approved to BS8404. A test report is available for review.
